The material used for shrink film sleeve label should focus on three factors: environmental protection requirements, film thickness and its shrinkage performance.

 

Determining the thickness of the film is based on the application field of the tag and the cost factor. Of course, price is not the decisive factor, because each film has its own uniqueness, the user and the label printer must be clear about the film and the most suitable process for the material before signing up. In addition, the indicators required by the processing equipment and other technological factors also directly affect the selection of thickness. The film thickness of the shrink film sleeve label is usually required to be 30 ~ 70μm, among which 40μm and 50μm films are more widely used. In addition, there are certain requirements for the shrinkage rate of the film, and the transverse (TD) shrinkage rate is higher than the longitudinal (MD) shrinkage rate. The transverse shrinkage of common materials is 50% ~ 52% and 60% ~ 62%, and can reach 90% in special cases. The longitudinal shrinkage rate is required to be 6% to 8%. The materials for making shrink film sleeve labels are mainly PVC (polyvinyl chloride) film, PET (polyester) film, PETG (modified polyester) film, OPS (oriented polystyrene) film, etc. Its performance is as follows:

 

1, PVC film

PVC film is one of the most widely used film materials. Its price is low, the temperature contraction range is large, the demand for heat source is not high, the main processing heat source is hot air, infrared or a combination of the two. However, PVC is difficult to recycle and produces toxic gas when burned, which is not conducive to environmental protection and has been banned in Europe and Japan.

 

2. OPS membrane

As a substitute for PVC film, OPS film has been widely used. It has good shrinkage performance and is also conducive to environmental protection. This product is in short supply in the domestic market, and the current high-quality OPS mainly depends on imports, which has become an important factor restricting its development.

 

3. PETG membrane

PETG copolymer film is not only beneficial to environmental protection, but also can pre-adjust the shrinkage rate. However, due to the large shrinkage rate, it will also be limited in use.

 

4. PET film

PET film is an internationally recognized environmentally friendly heat shrinkable film material. Its technical indicators, physical properties, application range and use methods are close to PVC thermal shrink film, but the price is cheaper than PETG, is the most advanced unidirectional shrink film. Its horizontal shrinkage rate of 70%, longitudinal shrinkage rate of less than 3%, and non-toxic, pollution-free, is the most ideal material to replace PVC.

In addition, the heat shrinkable film tube is also the material for the production of shrinkable film sleeve labels, and can be formed at one time without stitching in production. Compared with the horizontal flat film, the cost of producing shrinkable film sleeve labels with heat shrinkable film tubes is lower, but printing on the surface of the tube body is more difficult to achieve. At the same time, the graphics and text of the heat shrinkable film tube label can only be printed on the surface of the film, and the graphics and text are easy to wear out during transportation and storage, thus affecting the packaging effect.

 

Shrink film sleeve label printing

 

1. Printing

Printing is performed on the selected film. At present, the printing of shrink film sleeve mainly uses intaglio printing, using solvent-based inks, followed by flexographic printing. With the development of flexo printing technology, the printing color is bright and clear, which can be comparable to gravure, with the thick and high gloss of gravure. In addition, flexo printing more water-based ink, more conducive to environmental protection.

 

2. Cut

The printed reel film material is longitudinally cut with a high-performance slitter machine, and the edge part of the film is processed to make it smooth, flat and not crimped. When using the slitter, care should be taken to avoid heating the blade, because the hot blade will cause the film to be cut part of the wrinkle.

 

3. Suture

After longitudinal cutting, the film is sutured with a sewing machine in the center, and the tube mouth is glued to form the film sleeve required for packaging. The amount of material required for suturing depends on the accuracy of the suture and the skill of the operator. The maximum allowable amount of suturing is 10mm, usually 6mm.

 

4. Horizontal cutting

Wrap the film sleeve outside the commodity, and use the slitter machine to cut laterally according to its packaging size. Shrinkage film in the appropriate heating temperature, its length and width will occur sharp shrinkage (15% ~ 60%). Generally, the size of the film is about 10% larger than the maximum size of the commercial shape.

 

5. Thermal shrinkage

Heat by hot channel, hot oven or hot air spray gun. At this time, the contraction label will quickly shrink along the outer contour of the container and closely fit the outer contour of the container, forming a label protection layer that is completely consistent with the shape of the container.
